Boston, MA – September 27, 2011 – Content provider Assisted Living Today launched a collection of elderly care resources including this graphic which revealed that while nursing homes are closing, the elderly population is growing at a rapid rate. The graphic estimates that 42 million seniors may be left without care by the year 2012.
The basic findings of the report show that baby boomers are reaching senior status at a rate of 10,000 per day, and will continue to do so for the next 19 years, while nursing homes close at alarming rates.
Additionally the study found that the problem is particularly perilous in low income areas and amongst certain ethnic populations, as low income regions are 2x as likely to see nursing home foreclosures as high income areas.
Specific data points exposed in the graphic mentioned above include:
- In 10 years, 70 million people will be over the age of 65
- At the current rate of population growth and foreclosure, only 40% of the senior population will have an opportunity to live in a nursing home
- By the year 2012 there will be a need for one million new nurses

Absolutely right, I do agree with your post. By the way I am looking for Best Retirement Communities where my retired brother can stay. My brother is very old & unwell. One of my co-worker suggested Garden Spot Village . He said that it is the unique place for retirees & they also provide health care services. Do you have any idea about them? Please let me know. I will appreciate.
